Collection: Tendonitis
Tendonitis occurs when a tendon becomes inflamed or irritated. The result is typically a dull pain and general tenderness, frequently accompanied by swelling around the nearest joint. While tendonitis can afflict any of your tendons, it most commonly presents itself around the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and heels.
Tendonitis affects athletes in particular, and likely stems from the repetition of specific movements, which put strain on the same tendon over and over. A pitcher in baseball, for instance, may be more susceptible to tendonitis in their elbow than someone who does not play sports regularly.
There are a number of ways to treat tendonitis, including rest, physical therapy and taking medications to reduce the pain.
